She's Come Undone

She's Come Undone (1992) by Wally Lamb. Dolores Price starts as a girl but matures into a young woman over the course of this novel. Her father deserts her and her mother at an early age. After her rape at the age of 13, she gains a tremendous amount of weight, until she weighs 250 pounds. She spends years in a mental hospital, until she finally gets her life back. The bare bones of the story don't do it justice, however, as the book shows us Dolores struggling with the various aspects of her life, and fills it with interesting characters. Wally Lamb is an author whose other books I look forward to exploring. Grade: B+
